Welcome Tiger Cubs!
Den Leader Annie Olivas will be bringing the Tiger Cub Scouts to Open Fork Farm on November 4, 2006. What can the tiger scouts expect?
Scouts will arrive at the farm at about 3:00 p.m. Beside the barn are pastured 5 baby horses that were born this year. In the pasture with them is one horse that is a year old. Directly in front of the barn in the big pasture are the older horses. Scouts can see these horses when they first arrive.
In the barn, Ronnie and Brenda Combs will introduce themselves and then introduce the scouts to the horse and the Rocky Mountain Horse Breed. Scouts will learn how to approach a horse, how to make friends with one and what to look out for. They will also learn what horses were used for in the past and how we use them today. Scouts can pet the horse, groom them and learn a little about their shoes, the bridle, the saddle and everything that we use to ride. Scouts will see Monday Monday or Boo at this time.
So long as parents approve and where scouts would like, they may ride up and down the barn hallway while Ronnie leads them. We may separate the group, depending on size. Some scouts and parents may be outside getting to see the young horses and learning about the differences in size, how the horses grow, what horses eat and how they behave. Then, Ronnie and Brenda will switch.
After that, Den Leader Annie Olivas takes the lead with any other farm activities.
We hope you will enjoy your day. So you can learn a little about the horses and the farm, please take a look at the rest of this page.
